Vols and Noles lead for Florida lineman

Miami, Florida defensive/offensive tackle Ruben Carter already had over a dozen scholarship offers. After a completing a summer trip that included stops at Alabama, Tennessee, Auburn, Florida State, and Florida, Carter claims to have picked up offers from Tennessee and Florida State.

“On the trip, University of Tennessee and Florida State offered me at offensive lineman,” said Carter.

The two most recent offers caused the 6'4 285 pound lineman to name a new pair of leaders.

“Florida State and Tennessee are leading right now, they are recruiting me hard.”

Carter talked about what stood out to him most at FSU.

“It’s a good school and coach Trickett is a wonderful coach. I can see myself playing under that staff and making big things happen in that program. They have a pretty good tradition as winners and I’m coming from a winning program myself. The environment when I went up there was pretty good and I liked it.”

Like FSU, Carter likes the winning tradition at Tennessee.

“Well I didn’t know too much about Tennessee, but I know Coach Dooley and what he’s trying to do. He’s a very good coach and I can see myself playing for him also. I think they are a winning program and with Coach Dooley coming in they can continue things. I like how the offense is ran. We run that in high school, so I think I can come in a make a big impact as a freshman on the offensive line.”

Carter didn't start playing football until last year, after coming over from basketball, and is still growing as a prospect. Most of Carter's offers to date were to play on the defensive line or possibly offensive line. FSU and Tennessee were the only schools to offer strictly as an offensive lineman, the position that Carter feels he is the best at.

“I liked defensive line because that’s what I played, but in high school I had no choice but to play both ways. I was labeled as good defensive tackle, defensive end, but on the offensive side of the ball I was labeled as a great offensive lineman.

“I can use my agility on the offensive side of the ball and my quick and aggressiveness and maybe make an even better offensive lineman. Most schools are in need of offensive lineman. With my long arms and I’m still growing I can make a good impact at offensive line at a university.”

As far as a decision, Carter says that is still a long way off.

“I was thinking February, but I looking to move it up to December.”
