Due to the fact that all 27 of LSU's signees are academically qualified, there would not be scholarships available for two of their incoming freshman according to Tigerbait.com
According to sources close to the situation, Archbishop Shaw High School offensive lineman Elliott Porter was released from his letter of intent after meeting with Tigers coach Les Miles on Tuesday. During that meeting, Miles told Porter that he wanted him to greyshirt and enroll in school next January.
Coaches from numerous schools made calls about Porter's availability. According to people close to Porter, it's now about a 50-50 chance that he will take the greyshirt. Porter may wait until Thursday before making a final decision.
Porter will be immediately eligible at any other school. A possible destination for Porter is Tennessee. Last year, Porter made 65 tackles. As a junior, Porter recorded 85 tackles, including 20 sacks. LSU intended to move Porter to the offensive line. Porter worked out with the team during the summer.
Porter was rated the #24 Offensive Guard by Rivals and had offers from Nebraska, FSU, and Mississippi State in addition to LSU. For a Vols team that is thin in the trenches, this would be a great pickup this late in the process.
